Fort Wilkinson (1797 - unknown), Milledgeville.
This fort replaced Fort Fidius (1793 - 1797) as the Federal fort protecting the Indian boundary. The stockaded Fort Fidius had replaced another fort at Rock Landing (1789 - 1793) on the Oconee River. Fort Wilkinson was discontinued by the 1850's.
In 1794, Elijah Clark attempted to establish an independent republic in the area and built Fort Advance, Fort Defiance, and Fort Winston.
In Their Own Words, Benjamin Hawkins
