Headstones of Deceased Union Civil War Veterans 1879-1903 Card Search

In 1861 the first organized system of marking soldiers graves was created by General Orders No. 75, but it was not until 3 February 1879 that Congress authorized the furnishing of headstones for the unmarked graves of veterans in private cemeteries.
Information on these carded records includes: Name, rank, unit, date of death, the name of the cemetery, the name of the company supplying the headstone (although all were of standard design) and the date the headstone was contracted for.
