A story comes from Christiansburg, Va., to the effect that Deputy Sheriff Robert Durham, of Giles county, on Monday, discovered the hiding place of two young men who had been fugitives from justice for months. They were skulking in the mountains near Ripplemeade. The sheriff and his posse surrounded their hiding place, and making their presence known, demanded the surrender of the young men.

The young men made a simultaneous dash for liberty, attempting to break through the cordon and one of them, Cleovus Reynolds, fired on the posse. The officers promptly returned the fire, and at the first volley Reynolds was instantly killed. The other young man, Burnett Linkous, upon seeing his fellow fugitive fall dead, surrendered without further resistance. He was taken to Christiansburg and lodged in jail.
